Born of logic, yet drawn to dreams…

Space Electronic Disco is the solo project of Dr. Shane Thwaites, blending intricate electronic production with a passion for sonic storytelling. Originally founded in Melbourne in 2005, the project debuted with 5-HT and the Hallucinogens, created with friends Ming (aka Ming One / DJ Chosen) and Yuki. Tracks from that EP gained traction, including a feature on SBS TV’s Fat Pizza: The Da Vinci Cup.

In 2006, Shane followed up with the Demon EP, featuring guest vocalists and Yuki’s guitar work. The standout track “Softer,” featuring Georgie Phillips, was featured in the AFI award-winning short film Spike Up, directed by Anthony Maras.

Over the years, Shane played synths live with Johnny Rock and the Limits, and guitar for Easy Please. While working professionally in audio, remixing artists and recording acoustic sessions, he also completed a PhD in neuroscience. Now based in Northern Rivers, NSW, Shane has returned to his creative core — producing music as Space Electronic Disco.

Late 2024 saw the release of a string of singles leading to The In Formation, a concept album exploring AI, identity, and the collapse of meaning. It was followed quickly by Gravitas Protocol, a more human-centric response grounded in emotional weight and reflection.

In 2025, Shane began work on a third full-length album. The first single, The Great Flood, channels biblical imagery and existential themes — opening a new chapter in Space Electronic Disco’s evolving sonic universe.

Born from curiosity and chaos, Space Electronic Disco is a collision of industrial edge and interstellar dreams — where Daft Punk grooves meet the raw intensity of Nine Inch Nails.
